In a first-of-its-kind social gathering last Friday, the DSC’s leadership committee hosted members of the Santa Barbara Young Democrats and the UCSB Campus Democrats chartered clubs at the home of our DCC representative Paula Johnson in an effort to get to know each other better and smooth the way toward common goals. Besides the great variety of appetizers and beverages, the connection and conversation across age groups made a perfect setting for recently elected County Democratic Party Chair Christian Alonso to introduce himself and his vision for the local party’s future.

The ILDC and 805Undocufund are looking for volunteers to distribute an Employer Guideline for ICE Raids at Workplaces brochure to local businesses where undocumented folks might be working or shopping. We need you to walk a stretch of Milpas, State, or Hollister (San Andres is covered) and pass out our brochures to managers and supervisors on site. The goal is to help them understand how they can legally protect their employees and customers.
So, if you’re interested, come to an organizing meeting next Thursday, April 17, at 5:30-6:30 pm, at the Unitarian Society Parish Hall, 1535 Santa Barbara St. We will be signing you up to walk a part of the targeted areas and giving you the brochures we’d like you to leave at each worksite. All will be further explained at the meeting.
